Evanger’s Voluntarily Recalls Hunk of Beef Because Of Pentobarbital Exposure in one Batch of Food
Oct 7, 2016
Rendering facilities handle everything from dead livestock to expired meat. “It’s almost impossible to tell what’s being rendered: it can be road kill, zoo animals, and sometimes even spoiled meat from the grocery store that’s still wrapped in plastic.”
Human food by-products used for animal food are typically:
(1) distributed (sold or given away) to an animal producer to be fed directly to livestock, (2) distributed to another facility that will further process them for animal food use, or (3) further processed for animal food use at the human food facility.
Some examples of human food by-products used for animal food include:
• Wheat middlings generated while processing wheat for flour. • Grain products (hulls, bran, germ, gluten meal, grits, and meals) from other grain processing operations. • Peels, rinds, pomace, pulp, culls, or other similar material generated from processing fruits or vegetables for human consumption. • Human food such as potato chips, cookies, bread, pastry products, and pasta that is not adulterated and is safe for use as animal food, but is not acceptable as human food for quality reasons such as the wrong size, shape, color, or texture.

You wouldn’t want to eat that stuff, so why would you feed it to your dog?
Food and Drug Administration/Center for Veterinary Medicine Report on the Risk from Pentobarbital in Dog Food
In conjunction with this investigation, the Center wanted to determine if pet food contained rendered remains of dogs and cats.
How pentobarbital can get into dog food? Because in addition to producing anesthesia, pentobarbital is routinely used to euthanize animals, the most likely way it could get into dog food would be in rendered animal products.

How To Find Quality Dog And Cat Food
Dogs and Cats
My comment on this:
Wow, I was very surprised and it really opened my eyes to what our cat is eating. All of our dogs only eat what I make for them. But I will be changing our cat to a different food very soon!
Then it makes me wonder could what our pet is eating be making them sick with cancer, diabetes and even seizures?
One more thought, if they are rendering sick and diseased animals then it’s added to pet food, I’m sure they are pumped with potent drugs and even antibiotics. Then our family pet eats the food and gets a simple ear infection, and is put on antibiotics. Turns out the treatment don’t help your poor family pet because the food is full of antibiotics!
Do you have a comment? If so, feel free to post it at the top under RECALLS then pass it on to other pet family's.
