Tips for Buying Healthy Dog Food So your dog is eating kibbles or canned food, it don’t matter to me. There are ways to make that food healthier for your pet. First get a good dog food!
Read the ingredients on the bag or can of food. Look for the words chicken, beef, wheat, or rice. NOT THE WORDS chicken by-products, beef by-products, wheat bran, rice flour, rice bran or brewers rice. Your looking for whole foods that are in the bag or can. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poultry_by-product_meal Don’t let the photo or the name of the food sway your selection. Look for the first five ingredients on the bag or can, your looking for whole foods. Like chicken, beef, salmon, venison, wheat or rice. Plus look for whole vegetables and grains, organic ingredients are even better. Then stay away for kibbles or canned foods that have BHT and BHA as preservatives in them, this additive can cause your pet to have cancerous tumors. Keep in mind a average bag or can food will have 4-D animals, as protein in it. 4-D, (Meaning dead, dying, diseased or disabled.) Lets say some meat is being recalled for some food born illness and it’s unfit for human consumption, they are not going to just toss out tons of it! The are going to sell it to a dog food company, that will cook it and say it’s safe for pets. My thinking is if I can’t eat it neither is my pet. I’m not going to recommend any dog foods, because I make all of my pets food. I do have a small bag of kibbles for my emergency/disaster area in our home. When I fostered dogs, I had no idea what the dogs new owner was going to feed the dog so I bought a good dog food and would add fruits and vegetables when feeding them. Then if you want to change the dog over to all raw you need to make sure you have room in your fridge, freezer and an area for can goods, then you must like to cook and prepare meals. If you say NO to any of this you should stick to a good dog food and just add thing to the food. Be sure to check out my list of foods to avoid feeding your dogs. Tips: Check the date on bags of dog food and cans, there is a best by date on them. If you put kibbles or dog treats in a different container don’t put new food or treats on top of old, it can make your pet sick. If you do put food or treats in a different container, wash it often with dish soap that will cut grease. Please leave a comment
